Fire On Unley is a top notch steak destination on Unley Rd. For steak we have usually considered the CBD or Gouger St for example. But a short distance from the city in well heeled Unley is a superb Argentinian style eatery. Adelaide excells with its Argentinian eateries perhaps like no other state of Australia. We always consider that a steakhouse is not just about the meat. We look for savvy at Argentinian restaurants - not purely a case of "my steak is bigger than yours", but nuances and compelling flavours are a must. Image credit below: Fire in Unly Facebook.
Yes we look for premium cuts of the best meat (grain fed is impressive) but we also put a premium on the quality of sauces. It's here Fire on Unley delivers with it's Chimichurri Argentinian style sauce. Perfect match and with awesome nuances and kick. Wood fire pizzas were a strong temptation, as is the "fire chicken", but we elected for the Rib eye steak, cooked with fire in the pizza oven. The steak was delicious and perfectly cooked, served on a large wooden board with a serving of largish chat potatoes and a salad. Check out our pic below - such a rewarding dish! And does justice to Argentinian cooking!
The only slight issue is that when we asked for salt they brought us ground table salt. This seemed strange to us as we hadn't seen table salt in a restaurant for years; normally it's rock salt or commonly flakes. At least they brought us the table salt in a bowl.
Fit out is appealing including great use of dark timbers and chandelier. The fit out matches the class and style of Unley. Wine list was excellent with a small selection of Argentinian wine.
The service is professional and hits the mark, and the ambience is intimate. Owner Roger Hani has extensive hospitality experience and knows what the customers are looking for. The Chef has extensive Argentinian experience to bring the authentic. Image credit above: Fire On Unley Facebook. Highly recommended.
