Madame Hanoi captures the imagination at many levels with its intoxicating mixture of fabulous artwork and ambience, sexy food and engaging service. This is the perfect restaurant to take out of towners showcasing the modern progressive nature of Adelaide cuisine. We rolled up for a simple weekday lunch, having made our way through the adjacent railway station. This is quintessential Adelaide; in the heart of the political, banking and arts district.
South East Asia meets a french connection; although we didn't order any of the French inspired dishes. Menu highlights abound from the "favourites" larger dishes, the salads, bun options and the smaller dishes including "french connection."
We love the concept of street food highlighted in an upmarket context; street food with a twist. We are given rave reports of the Goi Vit; crispy confit duck, watermelon, vietnamese mint, hoisin so it was a "must order".
The idea here is to order a selection of dishes and even share with friends. (If I was here with several friends I would order say 8-10 dishes and get an array of tastes and flavours).
We find Vietnamese cuisine matches perfectly with a refreshing beer; including South Australia's finest. As we drank we studied the menu, and our eyes often diverted to the large mural (apparently the artwork involved projection on the wall before painting).
Refreshing, zesty and full of life; the Goi Vit is highly rewarding. Rich meat is offset by watermelon and the Vietnamese salad elements. A pure joy to imbibe this dish, especially on a warm Adelaide day.
The World Loves adelaide has a penchant for all things bao; and the Crispy pork belly, green papaya, pickled cucumber, and roasted peanuts was a delightful dish. Presentation was first class with 3 buns on the board. For th eprice this was a value for money dish.
Not every place we blog about we want to return to, but Madame Hanoi has aroused our interest and we want to return sooner than later. The restaurant is modern and imaginative with inspiring choices, engaging servive and even a sense of playfulness. Get on it.
