Mandoo Korean Dumplings is a fabulous eatery in Bank St, an attractive restaurant precinct in Adelaide. While we are used to Chinese style dumplings these Korean dumplings are something completely different and rewarding. How good is it to enjoy a plate/bowl of dumplings as a hearty tasty and satisfying dish? We journeyed to Mandoo for lunch amid a packed restaurant; not always easy to get a seat such is the popularity.
This is a no frills dumpling house. It's modern and comfortable but not opulent. The hero here is the food. Service is engaging. We loved how the dumplings were made in front of us with an open kitchen! This suggests the dumplings are freshly made.
We had the feeling you can just about choose anything on the menu and it will be rewarding; the big decision is whether to have your dumplings steamed or fried!
Fried pork dumplings are a hit and we love the larger thicker skin/casing style of the Korean dumplings. The accompanying salad of potato salad and pickles is also welcome, so the meal is not stodgy. You leave well fed, satisfied and also refreshed.
Mandoo excels when it comes to affordable "street food" style cuisine. We would love to try the Udon noodles some other time and also try their kimchi.
Chilli is mandatory when it comes to dumplings. Pickled cucumber (I think it was) was also welcome.
With green tea, this was a stunning lunchtime meal.
If I was a CBD worker in Adelaide (I once was) this would be a regular lunch venue. Get on it!
